What students and parents ask us most, from the first session to the week you fly. If your question is not here, ask us on WhatsApp.

Getting started

Is counselling at Republic really free?

Yes. Every counselling session with us, at our Kathmandu office or online, is completely free and carries no obligation. Parents are welcome to join.

Can I get counselling online?

Yes. You can meet us at our office in Bagbazar or have your session online, whichever suits you. Message us on WhatsApp to arrange a time.

What should I bring to my first session?

Your academic transcripts and your questions. If you have already taken an English test, bring the score too. Parents are welcome.

Where is your office, and when are you open?

Level 2, KSK Building, VIP Marg, Bagbazar, Kathmandu. We are open Sunday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Call +977-1-5346357 before you come if you want to be sure a counsellor is free.

Countries and intakes

Which countries can Republic help me apply to?

We guide students to the UK, Canada, Germany, South Korea, Sweden, Finland, the USA and Australia. We recommend a destination based on your academic profile, budget and career goals, not on commissions. See all destinations.

When are the main intakes?

They differ by country, and sometimes by university:

  • UK: September and January
  • Canada: September, January and May
  • Germany: winter semester (October) and summer semester (April)
  • South Korea: March (spring) and September (fall)
  • Sweden: autumn (August to September)
  • Finland: autumn (August to September), with some January starts
  • USA: fall (August to September) and spring (January)
  • Australia: February and July

We confirm the exact start date for every course on your shortlist.

When should I start preparing for my intake?

Ideally 8 to 12 months before your intended intake. That leaves enough time for English tests, shortlisting universities, scholarship deadlines and visa documentation without rushing.

Which universities do you work with?

We work with universities and colleges in the UK, Canada, Germany and South Korea, and help with admissions in Sweden, Finland, the USA and Australia too. See our partner universities.

Tests and scholarships

Do I need IELTS or PTE to study abroad?

Most universities ask for an English test such as IELTS, PTE, TOEFL or Duolingo. Requirements differ by country, university and course, and some offer waivers. We check the exact requirement for every university on your shortlist.

Do you teach IELTS and PTE?

Yes. We run classes in our Bagbazar office, with practice tests in exam conditions. We also prepare students for TOEFL and Duolingo, and advise on which test suits your course and country. More about test preparation.

Can you help me get a scholarship?

Yes. We identify scholarships you are eligible for, including university, government and fully funded options, and help you prepare strong applications and statements. Final award decisions are made by the university or scholarship body.

Will you help with my statement of purpose and CV?

Yes. Help with your statement of purpose and CV is part of our admissions support, along with complete applications submitted on time and follow-up with universities until you have an answer.

Visa and departure

Can you guarantee my visa?

No honest consultancy can guarantee a visa, because the decision belongs to the embassy. What we promise is a thorough document review, genuine financial guidance and mock visa interviews so your application is as strong as it can be.

Which visa will I need?
  • UK: Student visa
  • Canada: Study permit
  • Germany: National visa for study
  • South Korea: D-2 student visa
  • Sweden and Finland: Residence permit for studies
  • USA: F-1 student visa
  • Australia: Student visa (subclass 500)

Rules and document lists change, so we check the current requirements with you when you apply.

What happens after my visa is granted?

We help you find accommodation, guide you on flights, packing and forex, and tell you what to expect in your first week. Parents are welcome to join the pre-departure briefing.
